Chapter 18

They were all at Sharvari’s home listening to the PM address the nation.

“In this time of chaos and mayhem, I come bearing grave news. Mr. Raghav Sinha, our strategic head of defence and PMO was killed in a blast at the DIG office in New Delhi today…..”

Sharvari kicked the carpet. “He played me and I fell for it.”

She stood before Dhaigham and shouted, “If the fate of the world is on my shoulders, we have lost the war before it began.”

Dhaigham had no words to console her. Kasar walked to her and held her close. “Don’t blame yourself. Nothing is predictable in a war.” She sat next to him on the sofa. Dilan came and sat at her feet.

“We need to move on and think of the next event. As cold as it sounds, there are more lives at stake, and I am sure Raghav sir would have been as objective in this situation.”

The news caught their attention again…. “Please welcome Mr. Hiranya Kashyap, known strategist and philanthropist, CEO of Bija financials to take over the reigns after Mr. Sinha.”

“What the f**k!,” Kasar cursed. Sharvari froze her eyes wide. Dilan sprang to his feet. “How the hell did he pull this off.”

“No….this is bad, very bad,” Sharvari murmured. “The PM is out of his mind!” Kasar continued to rant. Out of his mind.

Those words struck a chord. In her panic over the attack, she had missed another fact from the conversation she had overheard. “Enzyme,” she whispered.

“What?” all the three men asked in unison.

“He spoke of an enzyme that day.”

“You think it has something to do with the attack, and this take over?” Kasar asked.

“I am not sure, but it sounds related. How else could he infiltrate the highest order of office.” She turned to Dhaigham, “Did Raktbeej’s blood have any special powers?”

“They could regenerate a clone.”

“His clone, right?”

“Yes.”

“You think he has cloned the PM?”

“Highly unlikely. That would take him time. This is something quick.”

Dhaigham chimed in. “Raktbeej’s power of producing strong clones could also be related to inducing chaotic thoughts in an individual’s mind.

He may have done the same to people who planted the bomb, the PM as well.”

“That does sound plausible. But now what do we do?”

“Hiranya will use his powers to first get us out of the way, so we have to be alert and on our toes.”

A knock on the door broke their discussion. Sharvari opened the door to find men in civil clothes.

One of them stepped forward and stated, “DSP Sharvari you and officer Kasar are hereby place under arrest for an attempt on the life of DIG Gupta and the murder of MR. Sinha.”

“But…”

“You have the right to remain silent, anything you say will be used against you in court. This is a nonbailable offence of the highest degree of treason.”

She began to resist, but Kasar held her back.

“Let’s go with them for now.”

He looked at Dilan and Dhaigham and said, “It’s the first day of Navratri and we are way over our heads. You both figure a way out and fast.”

Dilan swallowed a lump. This went downhill fast and Hiranya had managed to take out the strongest of them. “Grandfather lets go back to the temple and pray.”

“That will be a good idea. Laying low, at least we will be of some use.”

They gathered their belongings and left for Mahuli.
