Chapter 19
Sharvari and Kasar sat in the interrogation room surrounded by several officers of the CBI.
“Why so many of them?” Sharvari whispered.
“This isn’t protocol, something is off,” Kasar replied.
A tall, bald man pulled a chair before them, whilst the others waited.
“I am Mr. Kenkare and I am the chief investigator on this case…..”
He continued explaining the facts but Sharvari was distracted. A shadow at the back of the room moved to the officer behind Mr. Kenkare.
“So why did you do it?” He raised his voice, moving closer to Sharvari. The shadow bounced to the next officer. “Did you plant the bomb or did you send someone to do your dirty work.” The officer banged his fist on the table.
“Look now officer take it easy,” Kasar raised his hand. The shadow swooped over Mr. Kenkare and he smashed Kasar’s face down on the desk and ground his teeth. “You think you are smart?
You think being on the force gives you leverage? Let me tell you, you will be punished.” Kasar struggled under his strong grip.
Sharvari stared at this odd scene. She closed her eyes and prayed, ‘Dilan find a way soon, I don’t know how long we can hold on.’
Dilan was meditating before the goddesses. He heard Sharvari’s plea and felt her anguish in his mind. He channelled his powers to his mind and focussed on the link. Sharvari felt a warmth spread through her body.
Seeing Kasar bent helpless on the desk agitated her. She stood and roared, “Let go!”
The officers all backed down. The shadow dissipated. Kasar rubbed his neck. The men in the room looked confused.
Mr. Kenkare looked at his subordinates and gave a terse command, “Get out, since when do we have so many people in the interrogation room.”
Kasar looked at Sharvari. Her eyes glowed and she bared her teeth at Kenkare. “Sharvari, calm down, I am fine,” he said.
Mr. Kenkare sighed and continued interrogating them. Their alibis stood. The guards at the DIG house confirmed they were nowhere near the site of incidence.
What was suspected as bombing was now suspected to be faulty power lines and a short circuit. After two days of grilling them the CBI let them off on a warning.
“We are watching you, don’t skip town and stay available on call.” Mr. Kenkare warned. Tired, hungry and miserable Sharvari and Kasar headed home.
Sharvari showered, mulling over the happenings of past two days. The power she had experienced when Kasar was struck had felt inhuman.
It felt like Dilan. But how? Her mind refused to accept this. She towelled her head and switched on the news.
The newsreader droned on about the findings in Raghav Sinha’s death and the surprising appointment of Hiranya Kashyap. She smirked.
“I had expected a physical fight, but this is what war feels like. Dirty tricks and manipulations.”
She picked the remote to switch channels when the reporter began speaking about the Havan at Kaalimath 4 days later.
‘The PM along with Hiranya Kashyap and a guest of honour who hasn’t been revealed yet will grace the occasion. The nation needs prayers along with efforts at this time of sorrow….’
“What are you upto Raktbeej? What is your plan? You are going to hurt the PM for sure, but when and how.”
Sharvari muttered. Her phone rang. It was Dilan.
“Hey,” she said.
“Are you guys, okay?”
“Yes. Tell me.”
“I think I know how to defeat Raktbeej without you devouring or drinking his blood.”
“How,” Sharvari asked, her voice curious.
“We dehydrate him.”
Her mouth fell open. “How on earth are we going to pull this off?”
