A Recipe Close to My Heart

It begins with hunger—but becomes something more.A simple cheese bread turns into a memory, a lesson, and a quiet bond between a mother and child.

This story isn’t about cooking. It’s about growing up, sharing love, and discovering pride in the smallest moments.

Sometimes, the simplest meals stay with us forever.

One day, I was very hungry, and my mother made cheese bread for me. It was so delicious that I still remember its taste.

The aroma was amazing, and my mouth started watering even before I took the first bite. That day, I realised that this simple dish was not just food, but something special made with love.

After a few days, my parents had to go out of town, and I stayed with my grandparents. I missed my mother’s cooking, especially her cheese bread.

So, one day, I called her and asked for the recipe.

She patiently explained,

“First, toast the bread until it turns golden brown. Then place a slice of cheese on it. If you like, you can sprinkle some chilli flakes and oregano for extra flavour.”

I listened carefully and was excited to try it myself.

The next day, I made cheese bread for my grandparents. They really enjoyed it and even asked me for the recipe. I felt very proud of myself. For the first time, I had cooked something on my own, and it turned out well.

Later, when my friends came over, I made cheese bread for them too. At first, it was a little too spicy, but I quickly adjusted it and made another batch without chilli flakes. This time, everyone loved it.

This experience made me very happy because I learned how to make something beyond instant food. More importantly, I understood that cooking is a way of sharing love and happiness with others.

Even today, cheese bread remains very special to me—not just because of its taste, but because it reminds me of my mother, my family, and the joy of cooking for the people I care about.
